The Bangkok Post has reported the reopening of the famous Maya Bay in the southern Thai province of Krabi. It was closed to visitors for two months to allow for the natural restoration of ecosystems.

Maya Bay is part of the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. For two months, park rangers have been installing special buoys in the bay to protect corals and ensure visitor safety.

The bay gained worldwide fame thanks to the Hollywood film "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Maya Bay became a major tourist attraction. Such immense popularity nearly ruined the picturesque bay. In 2018, it was closed for three years for rehabilitation. During this time, sharks and other fauna returned to the reefs. Now, the attraction is welcoming tourists in limited numbers and is periodically closed to allow the ecosystem to recover naturally.
