Airbnb payed $ 64.5 million (€ 58 million) to the French cities in tourist tax in 2019, say local media.
According to official figures, the company's tax payments for this period doubled compared to the previous year, when Airbnb paid $26.69 million (€ 24 million) to French municipalities.
The three French cities that received the largest amount from Airbnb tourist tax payments in 2019: Paris ($ 15 million or € 15.3 million); Marseille (2.5 million US dollars or 2.3 million Euros); and Nice ($ 2 million or € 1.8 million).
As EcoTourism Expert came to know, Airbnb tax payments benefit not only large cities, but also many communities outside major urban centers or tourist resorts.
At the end of 2019, Airbnb paid more than $ 11.6 million (€ 10.5 million) to French cities with a population of less than 3.5 thousand people, which is three times more than the previous year - 3.5 million dollars (3.2 million euros).
