Work on determining the location of future electric charging stations is nearing completion in Karelia. First of all, it is planned to install them in places of the greatest tourist flow, for example, in Ladoga Karelia, along regional and federal highways. This is reported on the website of the government of Karelia.

“Every year, the tourist flow in the republic is growing, therefore, a high-quality and developed road network, including the most convenient road infrastructure, is important for citizens traveling by electric vehicles. Also, the presence of a charging infrastructure will contribute to the growth of the electric vehicle fleet in the republic,” the message says.

Currently, there are a small number of electric charging stations in Karelia - in Petrozavodsk, Lakhdenpokhsky district, Sortavalsky and Segezhesky districts. They are mainly located near hotels and shopping centers. In the near future, it is planned to install such a station in one of the shopping centers of Petrozavodsk. Work on creating electric charging stations is also underway in Sortavala.

The development of electric charging infrastructure in the regions was discussed at a working meeting under the leadership of the Ministry of Energy of Russia on May 16, which was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Karelia.

This year, the republic joined the implementation of the pilot project "Electric car and hydrogen car". The memorandum of intent on the development of electric charging infrastructure on the territory of the region between the Karelian company and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the republic was signed in March within the framework of the ATOMEXPO-2024 forum in Sochi.

The development of such infrastructure in the regions is supported by the federal budget in the form of subsidies to investors.
