Zimbabwe, which has traditionally relied on tourists from the United States, Europe, Australia, and a few  African countries, is now targeting the Russian tourism market.

Business Insider Africa reports that the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) recently hosted a delegation from Russia led by Daria Falovskaya, a market expert for Integrity Promotion Group.

Falovskaya said there is an untapped potential for the Russian market in the tourism industry.

She, however, said the number of outbound trips from Russia is growing.

“Only 20% of Russians have ever travelled abroad, so this is a huge untapped market for travel,” said Falovskaya.

She said Russian tourists prefer adventurous experiences and are chiefly destinations that offer a blend of nature, local culture, culinary experiences, and activities such as fishing - elements that Victoria Falls provides.
