The Far East Development Corporation (FEDC) has announced plans to develop over 118 kilometers of new tourist trails in the region. This initiative, part of the "Far East Trails" eco-tourism program, was discussed at the Eastern Economic Forum 2024.
Maria Badmatsyrenova, Deputy Director of the Investment Department at FEDC, revealed that the Ministry of the Development of the Russian Far East has approved recommendations for the development of tourist trail projects. These projects must meet specific criteria, including accessibility to the population, natural and historical attractions, supporting infrastructure, year-round usability, and the potential to attract non-budgetary funding.
"As a result of the expert council's work, 18 projects were selected. Their implementation will require 1.7 billion rubles from the federal budget. As a result, 118.2 kilometers of tourist trails will be created and equipped in the Far East," said Badmatsyrenova.
For instance, new popular destinations will be created in Kamchatka by 2030. Tourist trails will be developed along routes such as "The Mystery of the Blue Lakes," "Avachinsky Pass," "Vilyuchinsky Waterfall," and "Khalaktyrsky Beach."
Yulia Ivanova, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Zabaykalsky Krai, noted that each region in the Far East has unique resources for tourism development. "In Buryatia, it's Lake Baikal and sanatoriums; in Chukotka, it's eco-tourism and sea cruises; in the Khabarovsk Territory, it's gray whales and industrial tourism; in Yakutia, it's gastronomy and extreme tourism; in Primorsky Krai, it's cultural, educational, and beach tourism. The Zabaykalsky Krai is a real find for cultural and educational tourists," Ivanova said.
She added that four of the best tourist trail projects will be implemented in Zabaykalsky Krai.
