WWF-Russia is conducting an online course “Management for Disaster Risk Reduction” to raise awareness of natural hazards. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, the course participants will learn what they can do to reduce the risk of natural disasters or reduce the damage they cause, as well as how to behave in emergencies.

Oksana Lipka, Ph.D. (Geography), Deputy Head of the Department for the Study of Atmosphere and Natural Terrestrial Systems' Interconnection, Yu. A. Izrael Institute of Global Climate and Ecology, is the author of the course. According to her, there are methods that can help protect the lives and health of people, significantly reduce damage, and sometimes prevent the disaster itself.

“Thus, there is a whole new trend: management for disaster risk reduction,” says Oksana Lipka.

“Some of the measures are designed for government organizations, others are applicable in many professions, and still others can be used by anyone who is in a difficult situation. The course includes information on what can be done and where you can find help. Armed with knowledge, you can find the right way out of emergencies.”

According to the creators, the course may interest everyone who wants to receive and, if necessary, put into practice relevant and important knowledge on how to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The course will last until April 30, 2020, you can join it following the link.

The course consists of 4 modules, each of which lasts for 30 minutes.

The first module is an introductory course on natural disasters in Russia and organizations that are working to reduce the potential risk. The second is devoted to preserving the life and health of people including both government measures and personal strategies. The third module focuses on the role of management in disaster risk reduction in various sectors of the economy, as well as in related professions. And the fourth deals with natural disasters in the Kamchatka Krai (territory) and disaster risk reduction strategies applicable in any corner of Russia.
