Students of the Mountain Academy (Gornaya Academy), children aged 7 to 12 years old, will be able to learn about the fascinating world of mountain tourism, flora and fauna of the region and environment.

"Rosa Khutor continues to develop new directions of versatile family recreation. In June, the resort will reopen children's camps "Mountain Academy ". This season, young guests of the resort within the framework of the "Mountain Academy» will be offered for the first time an exciting workshop on ornithology «The Secret Life of Birds»,'' said the Rosa Khutor press service.

There are 256 bird species at the resort and in the surrounding area, about 100 of which are nesting, and more than 140 are migratory, going through the mountains of the Western Caucasus, which makes this region extremely interesting for birdwatching. For example, the golden eagle, the largest eagle in Russia with a wingspan of 2.5 meters, lives in the Mountainous Black Sea region. Here you can also see the fastest bird in the world - the black swift, its horizontal flight speed is 170 km / h, the smallest bird in - its weight is 4 grams, or the peregrine falcon, which develops a speed of over 300 km / h.

''The location of the resort "Rosa Khutor» at heights from 560 to 2509 meters above sea level allows you to study the habitat and species diversity of birds for each landscape and climatic zone - from mixed deciduous forests of the Mzymta valley to flowering alpine meadows and rocky peaks of the surrounding mountains. The "Mountain Academy" of the resort has undergone appropriate training, has extensive methodological materials, including an informative colorful booklet full of interesting facts from the life of birds,'' the resort noted.

The program involves not only theoretical studies, but also excursions in nature, when, moving along the route children under the guidance get acquainted with the structure of ecosystems, in which birds play an important role, look for their traces and acquire the skills of observing them. Listeners of the program will get an idea of ​​what to do if they find a chick, how to feed the birds in winter, and so on.

''The study and preservation of the natural heritage is the priority of the Rosa Khutor resort. The mountainous Black Sea region has a very rich avifauna, so we considered it important to organize the acquaintance of our young guests with it. More than half of the birds nesting on the territory of the resort are endemic at the subspecies level, they live only here. There are rare birds - 15 species are included in the Red Data Books of various levels. In our Mountain Academy, children not only get an idea of ​​the world of birds, mountains, how important it is to preserve their natural beauty, but also valuable practical skills that will always be useful in life,"  noted the press service of the resort  Rosa Khutor".
