As EcoTourism Expert came to know, Chinese dove-tree, or Davidia involucrata, was brought to Sochi Park "Southern Cultures" in the middle of the last century. During flowering, a decorative deciduous tree is dotted with a mass of inflorescences with large white bracts. Dangling from twigs, they tremble under the blow of the wind and from a distance resemble white napkins, scarves or a flock of pigeons. In Western Europe and the United States, they call Davidia a dove-tree.
The plant was named after the discoverer, the French monk J. David. He discovered the tree in the mountainous regions of central and western China in the 60s of the XIX century. The tree was brought to Russia already in Soviet times, and Professor Dmitry Artsibashev introduced the Davidia into the Southern Cultures Park in Sochi. The reserve noted that the tree is difficult to propagate, the first seedlings of davidia appeared only in 2016, and this year the tree bloomed for the first time. Normally, the tree reaches a height of 20 meters. In the park "Southern Culture" they are 6-7 meters high.
The Caucasian Reserve that next to the existing davidia, another young tree was planted, and young shoots are gaining strength in the park greenhouse, which in the near future will become a decoration of the dendrological park.
