Namibia’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has implemented visas upon arrival at the border posts of Oshikango, Mohembo, Oranjemund, Ariamsvlei, and Noordoewer in a bid to boost tourism.
In the past, visas upon arrival were exclusively available at Hosea Kutako International Airport; Walvis Bay Airport, Katima Mulilo, Ngoma, Impalila Island, and the Trans-Kalahari border posts.
Additionally, to enhance cruise tourism, a visa-on-arrival initiative was implemented at the Walvis Bay Harbour.
There was a significant increase in the number of cruise ships landing at Walvis Bay Harbour, allowing tourists to experience all Namibia has to offer.
Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Minister Albert Kawana was reported by Tourism Update as saying that the expansion of the tourism industry demanded the new visa-on-arrival program.
“Upon entry into Namibia, our visitors are requested to pay for their visas online, because we have installed speed points at designated border points. The money is paid directly into the state revenue account, thereby eliminating temptations associated with handling cash,” he said.
Kawana said that before departure, travellers from nations without a diplomatic presence in Namibia were no longer required to apply.
However, this does not apply to anybody travelling to Namibia for employment, as they would still be required to obtain a visa.
A 90-day visa-on-arrival is available for €60 in cash.
