The Arctic should remain a territory of stability and good neighborliness, it is important not to allow it to become an arena of confrontation. This was stated on Friday by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at the international media congress of representatives of the countries participating in the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC).
Zakharova drew attention to the fact that the Council is successfully proposing a unifying agenda and is doing a lot to ensure that the North of Europe remains a zone of stability and good neighborliness. According to her, this is especially important against the background of various upheavals taking place on the world stage.
“We simply have no right to allow turning the territory of stability and constructive interaction - this property was created by decades of joint painstaking work - into another arena of unbridled geopolitical confrontation,” Zakharova said.
"If we are talking about the Arctic region, in particular about the environmental aspect, which is of public importance and is directly related to the health and well-being of people, any distortions in the presentation of information can lead to serious consequences," she said.
The participants of the media congress discussed the environmental agenda and its coverage in the media, the role of independent "green" movements in solving environmental problems, the influence of the media on the formation of an information map of the Arctic, trust in information, as well as new effective formats of cooperation of the international journalistic and expert community.
