The organizer of the event is the Sochi Education and Science Department, the S.Yu. Sokolov Ecological and Biological Center, with the participation of the Sochi National Park. As part of the competition, secondary school students and students of additional education institutions aged 14 to 18 will be able to present their projects. The main requirement is that projects must be aimed at the practical solution of environmental problems in the field of Sochi's tourism industry.
“Sochi is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country with unique natural locations. For many people from other regions of our country, even an "ordinary" plot of Colchis forest makes a strong impression and leaves vivid memories. Unfortunately, in the vicinity of settlements, natural territories are often inaccessible for recreation or, worse, are littered. The competition should stimulate schoolchildren's interest in practical solutions to environmental problems, help them realize the value of Sochi's rich natural and recreational potential, teach them to believe in their own strength on the path to positive changes,” shared Dmitry Kolosov, Director of Sustainable Development at Rosa Khutor resort.
An example of an environmental project could be cleaning and equipping a natural area for recreation near a home or educational institution, or developing a technical project in the field of waste management, wastewater treatment, and others. The winning team, including students and a teacher who oversees their initiative, will receive a grant of 100 thousand rubles from the Rosa Khutor resort to implement the project selected at the competition. The project must be implemented within six months. The organizers intend to develop the success of the competition by repeating it annually.
“For three years, the Eco-Biological Center, with the support of the Rosa Khutor resort, has been implementing an additional educational program for schoolchildren called “Sochi – a Territory of Natural Tourism”, focused on professional self-determination in the field of ecology and the tourism industry. The “Green Tourism in Sochi” competition will allow someone to take the first steps in a direction that may become a future profession,” said Elena Maltseva, director of the S.Yu. Sokolov Eco-Biological Center.
Applications for participation in the “Green Tourism in the Resort City of Sochi” competition can be submitted on the website https://ebc.sochi-schools.ru/ in the “Competitions” section until October 15. The projects will be evaluated by a competent jury of specialists in the field of ecology and tourism.
