The State Hermitage Museum has presented its plans for the coming year to the Ministry of Culture. The museum is preparing large-scale exhibitions both in St. Petersburg and abroad.

"In the Hermitage itself, more than 20 temporary exhibitions are planned. They will be devoted to a wide variety of topics: from Tibetan Buddhism to the dueling codes of different eras, from fashionable masterpieces of the last century to the lamps of the Muslim East," the message on the museum's official website says.

One of the main exhibitions of the next year is "To the Barrier! Duels and duels from Achilles to Lifar." It will open in the Nikolaevsky Hall of the Winter Palace at the end of June and present the European history of duels, starting from antiquity.

In the Manege of the Small Hermitage, from April 30 to September 7, the exhibition "Art Deco Fashion. From the collection of Nazim Mustafaev" will be held, dedicated to women's fashion of the 1920s and early 1930s.

The exhibition "A Treasure in a Lotus: The Art of Tibetan Buddhism. To the 110th anniversary of the St. Petersburg Buddhist Temple Datsan Gunzechoinay" will open in October. It will become part of a large project dedicated to the study and presentation of Buddhist art.

From December 2025 to March 2026, the Nikolaevsky Hall of the Winter Palace will host the exhibition "The Art of Portraiture. Personality and Epoch" - about the world history of portraiture. The viewer will see a large-scale perspective from the 20th century BC to the 21st century, from Altai masks and ancient Egyptian statues to works by contemporary artists.

In addition, exhibitions are planned to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 550th anniversary of Michelangelo, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Carlo Rossi, and the 200th anniversary of the Decembrist uprising on Senate Square.

The exhibition "Museum Detective" will demonstrate the restoration direction of the museum's work. It is dedicated to one of the unique works of ancient plastic art - the gilded bronze statue "Victoria of Calvatone". "The museum will offer a new format with elements of a detective investigation, designed for all visitors, including people with visual impairments," the Hermitage reported.

Next year, the museum is also preparing to hold over ten exhibitions in regions of Russia and in other countries. The exhibitions will feature different eras and cultures, East and West, classical art and modernity.

For example, the "Hunting - Passion and Entertainment" exhibition will be held at the "Hermitage - Ural" cultural and educational center, and the "Five Symbols of Happiness. Good wishes in Chinese art of the 17th-20th centuries from the collection of the State Hermitage" exhibition will be held at the "Hermitage - Siberia" center. The National Museum of Oman will host the exhibitions "Neo-Russian Style" (from January to June) and "Avant-garde Porcelain" (October 2025 - March 2026).
