Quebec allocates $200,000 to ensure the safety of ecotourists

The Minister of tourism of Quebec, Caroline Proulx, announced that the authorities of this French-speaking province of Canada will allocate $200,000 to ensure that companies working in the field of ecotourism meet the appropriate safety requirements when serving customers.

According to her, from now there will be regular unannounced inspections for the purpose of monitoring companies' compliance with the requirements of the authorities.

The Minister's statement was made after an incident with French tourists who fell through the ice on January 21 while traveling on snowmobiles on the lake Saint-Jean. 

The canadian guide who accompanied the French died, three tourists managed to escape, and five others are missing.
