A new report ranks Norilsk Nickel as the leader in sustainable development among major companies operating in the Russian Arctic. The "Polar Index" considers economic, social, and environmental factors.
Gazprom Neft leads in economic performance, while T Plus is tops in social responsibility. And in terms of environmental performance, the metallurgical company Norilsk Nickel is the leader. Norilsk Nickel is a prime example of a responsible approach to business. The launch of the "Sulfur Program" – a comprehensive project to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions – is already yielding impressive results. All 23 companies assessed are improving sustainability metrics despite geopolitical challenges.
"Their information on sustainable development and ESG transformation can serve as a model for others,"emphasizes Sergey Nikonorov, head of the project group for the development of the rating and professor at Moscow State University.
According to Pavel Sukhov, Deputy General Director of PORA, "the corporate sector is a driver of innovation in the Arctic." A responsible business approach not only improves the quality of life for people in the region, but also contributes to its further development.
The Polar Index is a joint project by MSU and PORA, designed to guide best practices in Arctic development.
