The press service of the Land of the Leopard National Park has reported that preparations for the fire season are currently being finalized within its territory. Dozens of kilometers of firebreaks have already been created, cleared of easily combustible dry vegetation. Upon completion, their total length will reach 240 km.
These so-called firebreaks serve as a crucial barrier to the spread of fire. These "protective belts" also allow for the rapid deployment of forces and means for firefighting.
As part of the preparation for the fire season, planned fire-fighting exercises have also been conducted, forest roads have been cleared, and personnel have undergone necessary training.
The first major wildfire near the national park has already been extinguished. It was detected in the area of Bezverkhovo village in the Khasansky district. This territory borders the Land of the Leopard National Park and the oldest Far Eastern reserve, Kedrovaya Pad. A total of about 10 hectares burned, but thanks to the actions of the Land of the Leopard rapid response team, the specially protected natural areas were not affected.
Natural fires can destroy tens of thousands of hectares of forest, lead to the death of wild animals, and cause significant damage to agriculture. Therefore, the Land of the Leopard carefully prepares for each fire season to prevent fires in the protected area.
