The Greek Ministry of Culture is offering a unique opportunity to feel like an aristocrat with exclusive access to the Parthenon outside regular opening hours, for a staggering €5,000.
Limited Access to the Acropolis:
In an effort to preserve the country's most prized monument, the Athenian Parthenon, Greece has limited access since April 1, 2024. Tickets to the sacred hill are now sold for specific time slots, with entry allowed only between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm.
VIP Tour of the Parthenon:
For €5,000, you can experience the Parthenon in solitude or with a group of up to 5 people during the most comfortable hours: from 7:00 am to 9:00 am or from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Controversial Initiative:
Despite objections from the "Union of Guardians of Greek Archaeological Sites," the Greek Ministry of Culture implemented this program. The €5,000 VIP access was originally planned to launch on April 1, 2024, but due to disagreements, the start date was postponed to the end of June.
Limited Availability:
The compromise reached slightly reduces foot traffic during off-peak hours: exclusive access to the Parthenon is permitted only 3 times a week - Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays - with a maximum of four groups allowed simultaneously.
High Demand:
Surprisingly, despite the hefty price tag, the program is in high demand. Tickets can be purchased on the museum's website: 10 days in advance for a self-guided tour and 30 days in advance for a guided tour. In both cases, the price remains €5,000. As an added perk, VIP guests are promised a complimentary "precious souvenir, a licensed reproduction of an ancient Greek artifact, allowing you to take a piece of classical antiquity home."
