Campervans gain popularity with tourists in Spain

The caravans have become the latest trend for travelling in Spain reaching a growth of 57% in 2019 compared to the previous year, as per a report by Eleconomista citing Indie Campers.  

Tourists spending on exactly this type of travelling increased by almost 9% y-o-y, with an average of 949 euros.  

The average booking period for this kind of transport is 6 nights, which allows tourists to visit the most attractive parts of the country.  

Barcelona (37%) and Madrid (17.8%) are the major contributors to this business, says the report.   

Caravans are becoming trendy as they provide comfortable conditions and allowing covering long distances and reaching out nature’s hidden treasures. 

Travel and tourism have become one of the biggest contributors to the Spanish economy, having added about 178 billion euros to the country’s  GDP in 2018.  

Spain ranked second on the World Tourism Organization’s list of most visited countries in the world, with its number of international visitors amounting to nearly 82 million in 2017.
