Summer in Romania is a time for festivals—featuring folk ensembles, classical music acts, and even knightly tournaments, attracting numerous tourists to the country. Among those arriving in Romania, one of the most famous attractions is the thrill of feeding wild bears alongside the Transfagarasan Highway, in one of the most striking and dangerous paths in Transylvania.

Feeding bears on the route can often lead to precarious situations, however, requiring intervention from both police and medical personnel. Last year, in the Transfagarashan region, there were around 400 instances of bear occurrences, and an increase in these numbers reflects upon the safety of local residents and tourists, making it essential to undertake measures to prevent harm.

To achieve this, the decision is made to reduce the presence of bears in this district. According to the Rumania Environment Minister's statement, wild animals have been planned to be resettled in a Zărneşti's remote wildlife reserve situated away from tourist areas and ensuring comfortable living conditions on protected land for the wild animals.
