The sanatorium is located in the territory of the safari park in the Akhshtyr gorge, surrounded by green mountains. The total area for elephants is ten hectares.

«We launched a pilot project according to the updated law on the treatment of animals. Now elephants will be able to walk in nature and swim during their holidays instead of sitting in cramped enclosures. Special people will take care of them and select their diet,»  said the general director of the Russian State Circus Sergei Belyakov.

The first guests of the sanatorium were two circus elephants Margot and Pretty. During a month of stay in the sanatorium, they will be able to go through all the recovery procedures and have a good rest.

«These elephants are circus animals, now they are undergoing rehabilitation procedures, just like athletes. I dreamed of such a unique place for elephants for over 20 years,» said the trainer of elephants Andrei Dementyev-Kornilov.

There is a pond for water procedures on the territory of the safari park. You can hide from the rain or the sun in a special tent. A diet has also been developed for animals. Balanced nutrition is part of the recovery complex. All guests of the safari park in the Akhshtyr Gorge will be able to see elephants in the wild until September 1. It is assumed that then the elephants will come to Sochi for rest for the whole summer, in between performances. Meanwhile, the Rosgoscircus is considering the possibility of creating an entire national park for elephants at the resort, where animals of retirement age or elephants can live after a long tour.
