The world's largest wind farm beyond the Arctic Circle, the Kola Wind Farm, has recently opened its doors to visitors and is now offering guided tours. Located on the Serebryanskoye Highway on the way to Teriberka, the wind farm was previously only accessible from a distance. This information was shared on the Telegram channel of the official tourism portal of the Murmansk Region (Murmansk.Travel).
"Guests will be introduced to the unique project of constructing a facility in the extreme north, learn about 'green energy' and the technological process of generating electricity using wind," the message reads.
Tours last 1.5 hours and photography is allowed.
The Kola Wind Farm's website provides details about the first such tour for industrial tourists.
"In addition to a walking tour of the wind farm, participants had the opportunity to look inside a wind turbine, which is as tall as a 50-story building. Experienced station employees who were directly involved in all stages of the construction project were involved in conducting such tours," the wind farm's statement said.
Reservations for tours can only be made through regional tour operators.
