Bulgarian sports veterans have undertaken the task of clearing rocks from the ski slopes in Pirin. This is not the first time such an initiative has been undertaken. Typically, the slopes are cleaned of debris and rocks 2-3 times a year, usually on weekends.
Once again, on the last weekend of October, veterans along with young helpers climbed Mount Pirin. All volunteers were equipped with picks, shovels, sturdy gloves, and buckets. For six hours, the ski slope was cleaned. A 7-kilometer section of the slope was perfectly leveled, and drainage ditches were cleared.
After completing the work, as tradition dictates, a communal meal was organized. The weather favored the veterans and their young friends: autumn this year in Bulgaria has been warm and sunny.
"I am glad that children, young people, and adults joined the cleanup. Among them was the mayor of Bansko, Stoicho Banenski, who is a member and a great friend of our club. The previous cleanup took place on June 2, when the members of the city's veterans' club demonstrated their care for the environment," said Dimitar Yulev, chairman of the veterans' sports society.
Cleaning the ski slope in Pirin Park has been a traditional volunteer activity for many years. This year, 350 people took part. However, if information about this initiative had been disseminated more actively, even more people would have joined the veterans. After all, residents and guests of the ski resort Bansko greatly appreciate the ecology of this place.
