The press service of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Protected Baikal" has published attendance statistics for protected natural areas for the first half of 2024. According to this data, the number of people who obtained permits to stay in Baikal National Park has increased by 21%.
"According to the online permit system Baikalpass.ru, over 91,000 permits were issued in the first six months of this year, with every 130th visitor being among the privileged categories," the report states.
The number of tourists with foreign passports nearly doubled, reaching almost 8,000 people. The management of the protected area expects this growth trend to continue. The primary increase in the number of foreign guests in Baikal National Park is attributed to residents of Southeast Asia. This growth is also supported by the introduction of direct flights, for example, from China.
The most popular tourist routes have been in the Olkhon cluster: "North of Olkhon Island," "South of Olkhon Island," and the water route "The Aquatory of the Small Sea with Islands." The route "Quarter 238 – Shcheglova Hollow" had the fewest visitors.
