Varanasi will become the first cultural and tourist capital of the SCO

This decision will be made during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which will be held in Samarkand from 15 to 16 September.

The Interfax portal, citing Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov, said that the status of the tourist and cultural capital will be granted to the Indian city of Varanasi in 2022-2023. He noted that this is a new solution.

He noted that next year India will chair the SCO.
