Just a few days ago, a new service became available. Previously, after passing through passport control, tourists could go to the counter of one of the two largest telecom operators in the Emirates - Du or Etisalat - to get a free SIM card with 1 GB of mobile internet.
The new eSIM offers seamless connection without the need for a physical SIM card. Tourists can activate it by scanning a QR code and using facial recognition technology. According to the statement of the leading telecom provider in the UAE,tourists can activate their "free eSIM Visitor Line" immediately after passing through immigration control: the eSIM includes 10 GB of data and is valid for 24 hours.
If necessary, its validity can be extended, but through the purchase of an additional paid package. As a rule, this option is quite sufficient for many transit passengers or those who come to Dubai for a short visit. The tourist SIM card also gives the right to receive discounts and certain privileges when using public transport or attractions.
When leaving the UAE, the card is automatically blocked. Previously, tourists at Dubai airport could also get a free SIM card, but it only had 1 GB of internet on its balance.
According to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, last year alone, over 17 million foreign tourists visited this emirate.
