The Governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko, at a meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Alexander Kozlov, announced the unprecedented greening measures planned in the region.

“This year, unprecedented measures will be taken in the regional center to equip parks, green spaces, and public spaces. In particular, this season it is planned to plant thousands of flowers and create new alleys of trees. And we are not going to rest on our laurels,” the governor said in a message posted on the website of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Limarenko and Kozlov, among other things, discussed the implementation of the national project "Ecology" in the region.
The capital of the region, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk,

joined the number of participants in the federal project "Clean Air". Together with the regions and large enterprises, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia will work on the development of an air quality monitoring network, install additional control systems, the task of which is to promptly respond to incidents.

“We have been given an ambitious goal – to halve emissions of hazardous pollutants in participating cities by 2030. Therefore, it is important for us to start working on the development of consolidated calculations for each city right now. This is a kind of air passport, which clearly states where, who, what and how much is emitted. Based on them, we will determine the work plan - which facilities need to be modernized in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the first place, ”said Kozlov, who was quoted by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Within the framework of the Clean Air federal project, industrial enterprises in the participating cities are modernizing their production facilities. Also, the authorities, with the financial support of the federal center, are modernizing the utilities sector and transport to reduce harmful emissions.

In addition, last year in the Sakhalin region, work was actively carried out to restore forests. It is planned to fully replenish the retired forest within the framework of the national project by 2024.
