The Year of the Vladivostok Fortress has officially started in Primorye. The governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako presented a plan of events dedicated to this event, according to the website of the government of Primorsky Krai.

"Among them are the improvement of territories and roads leading to fortification sites, numerous publishing and educational projects, the allocation of a grant for work on preserving the historical environment, increasing accessibility and comfort for visitors," the message says.

At the same time, the tourist season began at the fortress facilities.

"Vladivostok Fortress is one of the most interesting and popular attractions of Primorsky Krai. Last year, more than 75 thousand people visited its facilities, including citizens, residents of the region and tourists who visited Primorye," the message says.

On August 1 of this year, it will be 135 years since the proclamation of Vladivostok as a fortress city.

According to the information on the website of the Vladivostok Fortress Museum-Reserve, this is a unique complex monument to the history of Russian military engineering thought of the late XIX - early XX century, which has no analogues on the territory of modern Russia.

"For its time, the Vladivostok Fortress was an advanced and very powerful defensive structure. She played an important role in ensuring the security of the eastern borders, first of the Russian Empire, and then of the Soviet Union. The fortress has prevented more than one invasion of the interventionists without firing a single combat shot.

Nowadays, it has lost its defensive significance, which it has maintained for about 60 years, and has become part of the cultural and historical heritage of the country," the museum's website says.

More than a hundred objects of the Vladivostok fortress are scattered along the hills and the coast of the Muravyov Peninsula-Amur and Russian Islands. Over the past decades, the harsh marine climate has destroyed some of the concrete structures, and many facilities have suffered at the hands of vandals.

It is the most fortified and powerful naval fort of its time, consisting of more than 800 fortification and infrastructure facilities, including underground galleries. The defense line of the Vladivostok fortress was 150 kilometers. It is a monument of Russian history and an object of fortification art of world importance.
