Denmark and Germany will be connected by an underwater tunnel for road and rail transport with a length of 18 kilometers.

The longest underwater transport corridor in the world worth 10 billion euros is being laid between the city of Redbihavn on the Danish island of Lolland and the settlement of Puttgarden in northern Germany.

A trip through the tunnel, the construction of which is scheduled to be completed in 2029, will take seven minutes by train and ten minutes by car and will eliminate the need to make a detour through the territory of Denmark with a length of 160 kilometers.

Travel time by train from Hamburg to Copenhagen will be reduced from five hours to less than three.
