The world's largest carnival swim on sap boards "Fontanka SUP" will take place in the center of St. Petersburg on August 5. It will be a key event of the festival "The Capital of Water Tourism. Petrovskaya Aquatoria", organized by the Committee for Tourism Development of Saint Petersburg‑St. Petersburg together with the portal " <url>".
"Thousands of fans of sap surfing will gather for the festival for the eighth time to walk along a circular water route with a length of about 9 km from Mikhailovsky Castle along the Fontanka River, Kryukov Canal, Griboyedov Canal, Moika – to the finish line near the Field of Mars," the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg reported on its website‑St. Petersburg.
This year, guests from Kaliningrad and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Yoshkar-Ola and Krasnodar, Norilsk and Omsk will come especially to swim along rivers and canals in the company of like-minded people. There will also be participants from Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Israel and other countries.
"Sap-Carnival is in the top 25 of the Unified Calendar of Events in Saint Petersburg‑St. Petersburg. This is the brightest mass event, which is widely covered by international media, a real magnet for tourists from different regions of Russia and other countries," said the head of the city Committee for Tourism Development Sergey Korneev, whose words are quoted in the message.
The festival town "Fontanka SUP" will unfold between the Field of Mars and the Moika from Sadovaya Street to Tsaritsynsky Passage.
The holiday will begin with a sports swim, participants will compete in two categories – professional and amateur. And then in the Fontanka water area from the Panteleimon Bridge to the Belinsky Bridge, the most massive dance flash mob on the water will begin, which will launch the colorful water carnival "Fontanka SUP".
Last year, the festival was attended by 6 thousand sap surfers from different cities and countries, and this year the number of registered exceeded 8 thousand people. Carnival participants will walk along the rivers and canals of the Northern Capital to cheerful music.
"From 11:00 and until the end of the carnival column, residents of the Igor Butman Jazz Club - the Yulia Mikhailovskaya Ensemble and the Stankov Jazz Band will improvise on the Levin and Sennoy Bridges. Groups of musicians will meet sap surfers on Gorstkin, Krasnoarmeysky and Italian bridges. On the Triple Bridge, drummers will add cheerfulness, on Krasnogvardeysky – a cover band," the committee noted.
According to the tradition laid down a year ago, during the festival there will be two weddings on saps.
The festival will host competitions for the best costume, the best design of the sap board, the best corporate crew, "Musical sap", "Oriental fairy tale", "Me and a valuable passenger" (for sap surfers with pets), "Not alone" (the best carnival image of a paired team or a group of friends).
The organizers offer the audience not to stay away - also come in carnival costumes and watch the sap surfers from the embankments and bridges.
Also, the program of the contestants' fashion show "Miss SUP".
The Fontanka SUP Carnival has been held since 2016. In 2021 and 2022, he was recognized as the winner of the Grand Prix of the Russian Event Awards.
