Almost eight thousand cubic meters of wood trash will be taken from the water area of the Sayano-Shushenskoye reservoir. This was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia on its website.

Employees of the Centerregionvodkhoz branch of Rosvodresursov examined the area from Joysky to Talovsky Bay on the territory of the Republic of Khakassia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Within two weeks, experts walked 100 kilometers of the route to assess how much wood accumulated during the filling of the reservoir and the maximum inflow to it.

"The largest volume was found in the area of Joyskaya Sosnovka, there are 2.5 thousand cubic meters of wood on the surface there. There are also surfaced trunks in the Talovka, Katushka bays, near the mouth of the Kantegirskaya Sosnovka Bay and Joysky Bay," the report says.

With the help of special equipment, the branch clears the water surface from wood debris and debris. This year, it is necessary to carry out work on a plot of 183 hectares.

"The toplyak continues to surface decades after flooding. These are the remains of a forest in a remote mountainous area, which turned out to be at the bottom of the reservoir bed on the Yenisei. Regular surveys of the water area help to update the work plan and determine the appropriate period for cleaning," said Maria Yakhontova, head of the Sayan Reservoirs Operation Management branch, quoted by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Since 2019, 114 thousand cubic meters of wood rubbish have been removed from the water area – this is half of the volume that was in the water by the beginning of the implementation of the national project "Ecology". In general, since the flooding of the reservoir, more than 90% of floating trees have been removed from the surface, the ministry said.
