According to the Orenburg Reserve, the population of Przewalski's horses living on its territory turned 7 years old on October 18.
In 2015, a project was launched here to create a semi-free population of these animals in Russia and a reintroduction center was opened. At the same time, the first six Przhevalsky horses arrived in Orenburg from France - the stallion Aven and the mares Sangria, Selena, Oliva and Lavender, as well as the one and a half year old foal Paprika.
This is how their first single harem was formed in the Orenburgsky Reserve. Then another 30 horses were brought in from Hungary.
“Currently, 85 Przhevalsky horses live on the territory of the Orenburgsky reserve, divided into 5 harems and 2 bachelor groups. And in 2022, 15 foals were born,” the reserve said.
The Przewalski's horse is one of the thirteen priority objects of the animal world of the federal project "Conservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism". Currently, the world population of the species has no more than 3 thousand individuals. According to the draft Przewalski's Horse Recovery Program in Russia, by 2030 the total number of the species in the country (in zoos, breeding and reintroduction centers) should reach at least one hundred individuals.
