The Foundation for the Conservation of National Nature reported on its Telegram channel that the story of the Dikson polar bear caused a great public outcry. The animal was found in the village of Dikson - he was lying with a gunshot wound in a coal heap.
Zoologists of the Moscow Zoo saved him from death - they quickly arrived at the place, provided first aid and transported the animal to Moscow for further treatment. Assistance in transporting the animal was provided by Norilsk Nickel. Now the animal feels well, but the hind legs still remain motionless, the fund noted.
After Dikson's story, more and more people became aware of the problems that haunt animals that live close to humans.
“Thousands of people across the country are watching the fate of the bear. Many write to us that they would like to help him somehow. But zoo specialists take care of him - the most experienced veterinarians and zoologists. But other bears really need our care!
Therefore - for all concerned - we decided to open a fundraiser. All the money raised will go to help and rescue polar bears,” the fund said.
The Foundation for the Promotion of the Conservation of National Nature was established in 2019 on the personal initiative of Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo and President of the Union of Zoos and Aquariums of Russia. It is designed to create a socially responsible platform for collecting and accumulating funds to finance projects aimed at preserving Russia's national wildlife heritage.
