Thai authorities have extended the visa leniency measure, allowing Russians to stay in the country without a visa for 60 days. Additionally, the list of visa-exempt countries has expanded from 57 to 93 nations.

"Citizens of 93 countries and territories are eligible for visa-free entry for tourism, business, urgent work, or single-entry work for a duration of up to 60 days of stay," according to the government's decision, published on the official page of the cabinet in 'Facebook'. – Period [of stay in the country] can be extended for a new term, not exceeding 30 days." Foreigners are allowed to apply for a new type of visa in Thailand before reaching the maximum stay of 90 days. However, visa extension for foreigners in Thailand "is solely at the discretion of the immigration officer."

The temporary visa-free scheme for Russians, which has been in effect since November 1, 2023, was extended in April of this year until July 31, and is now valid until October 31, with the possibility of further extension.

Furthermore, a new type of multiple-entry visa - DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) - was introduced on July 15. It is valid for 5 years, with a cost of 10,000 baht (approximately $276). The DTV is aimed at freelancers, remote workers, those attending sports or cultural events, various courses and masterclasses, as well as medical tourists. DTV holders can stay in the kingdom for up to 180 consecutive days.

Last year, Thailand welcomed 1.6 million Russian tourists, bringing in 8.4 billion baht (over $240 million) to the royal treasury. Russians were ranked fifth in terms of tourist numbers in Thailand.
