The liner of the Italian-Swiss company MSC Croisières left the port of Marseille for a test cruise, the first step on the way to the gradual resumption of cruises in France from June 30.

The ship SeaSide, designed to accommodate up to 5,000 passengers, went to navigation with only 339 tourists, who during the seven-day cruise will visit Taranto, Syracuse and Genoa.

The COVID-19 pandemic has halted the continued growth in the popularity of sea cruises, which reached its peak in 2019, with 29.7 million passengers worldwide, including 15.4 million Americans and 7.7 million Europeans, according to a report by the International Association of Cruise Operators (CLIA).
