The press service of the Primorsky Krai government reported that more than 155 thousand wild ungulates inhabit the region. Their number is stable and is at the level of average long-term indicators. According to experts, this is enough to provide a stable food supply for the Amur tiger.
Scientists counted 70 thousand roe deer, almost 40 thousand sika deer, more than 30 thousand spotted deer, more than 2.3 thousand elk, and almost 14.5 thousand boars. The statistics did not take into account the number of musk deer, red deer and Amur gorals, which are listed in the Red Book.
Usually, wild boar forms the basis of the Amur tiger's diet. However, its population in the region has decreased by more than 70% over the past four years due to African swine fever. Therefore, the development of the tiger's food supply is possible only due to the growth of the number of other objects of its hunting: roe deer, sika deer, and sika deer.
