The expedition was attended by specialists from the Pacific Oceanological Institute after Ilyichev of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The press service of the Institute reported that the two-day land expedition took place in connection with the major eruptions of the Shiveluch and Bezymenny volcanoes in Kamchatka. Scientists took samples of water and snow in the catchment area from the source to the mouth of the Kamchatka River. This is the largest water artery of the peninsula with a length of more than 700 km.

"The results obtained will make it possible to assess the effect of volcanic ash on the chemical composition of the waters of the Kamchatka River and its receiving basin, the Kamchatka Bay," the report says.

In addition, scientists of the Institute took part in the XXIV annual scientific conference "Volcanism and Related Processes", dedicated to the Day of the Volcanologist.
