Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Volvach and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia Khairyul Firdaus held the first meeting of the bilateral working group on tourism, established in November. The event took place on May 15 in Kazan "on the sidelines" of the XV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World".

"A separate topic of discussion was the launch of direct air traffic and the mutual cancellation of visa requirements. Both sides supported these initiatives and will carefully work them out with industry departments," the Ministry of Economic Development said in a statement on its website.

The parties also agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of tourism by the end of 2024.

"The potential for growth in mutual tourist flow between our countries is very high. The launch of an industry dialogue will allow us to eliminate the current barriers associated with transport accessibility, the lack of information about the tourist potential of countries and the possibility of paying for tourist services," the statement quotes Volvach as saying.
