Russia and Kazakhstan discuss transboundary cooperation on environmental issues

Governor of the Orenburg Region Denis Pasler, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Alexander Kozlov and Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliev held a meeting on cooperation between the two states in resolving environmental issues. During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the Russian-Kazakh cooperation program for the preservation and restoration of the ecosystem of the basin of the transboundary Ural River, the implementation of a single roadmap for enhancing cooperation in research in the basins of large rivers.

During the meeting, a program of Russian-Kazakh cooperation for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems of the transboundary rivers Ural and Irtysh was approved.

“The program will be implemented by 2024. Serious measures are planned to identify sources of pollution, reconstruct water structures, and clean up river beds. People, citizens of our countries, expect results from us,” commented Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation.

In addition, during the meeting, a program of Russian-Kazakh cooperation in the development of specially protected natural areas was also signed.

“Another focus the governments of the two countries is to address the preservation of the ecosystem of the Irtysh River.On our behalf the work has already begun. Alexander Alexandrovich and I agreed to meet already on our territory, in Pavlodar, and exchange views on the further preservation of its ecological state,” stressed Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Orenburg region is currently implementing a program of reconstruction of treatment facilities in Sol-Iletsk and the village of Oktyabrskoye. Reconstruction and construction of at least six more similar structures is planned by 2024.

In addition, a program for creating a semi-free population of the Przhevalsky horse in the Orenburg region is already underway. Since 2015, the fifth section of the Orenburgsky State Nature Reserve has been created, with an area of ​​16538 hectares - the Pre-Ural Steppe, represented by the steppes almost untouched by economic activity, where a project for the development of protected areas is being implemented.
