The Gorny chemical weapons destruction facility in the Saratov Region, Russia, was transferred to the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Federal Environmental Operator (division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom). An ecotechnopark for the processing of industrial waste will be created instead of a plant for the destruction of chemical weapons as part of the Ecology national project, as per the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The Mikhailovsky Ecotechnopark will start receiving secondary raw materials with high added value from 2024.
"All employees of Gorny will be involved in the process of creating a new ecotechnopark and in 2024, simultaneously with the completion of work on liquidation measures, they will be transferred in a new status to an enterprise for processing waste of I-II classes," said Maxim Korolkov, First Deputy General Director for the implementation of environmental projects of the FEO.
“The re-profiling of the chemical weapons destruction facility of the FKP Gorny is taking place under close public scrutiny. The main task of the Government of the Saratov Region is to ensure the ecological safety of the population and the environment of the region. I am sure that a modern enterprise that meets all environmental standards and conditions will be created at this site using the best available technologies,” said Konstantin Doronin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Saratov Region.
Ecotechnopark "Mikhailovsky" will become one of the largest taxpayers in the Saratov region and will contribute to the social and economic development of the territory.
Ecotechnopark "Mikhailovsky" is being created within the framework of the federal project "Infrastructure for waste management of I-II hazard classes" as part of the national project "Ecology". It will process wastes of I and II classes, which are emitted by industrial enterprises of the Saratov region and surrounding regions.
