Two new feeding stations have been installed in the forest zone of the Rosa Khutor resort.
This is where deer can be spotted during the rutting season, which begins in mid-September. At the beginning of autumn, animals can find salt in the feeding stations. The minerals contained in the salt strengthen bones, promote antler growth, and increase milk production in females for future offspring.
"A special type of salt is used for the feeders, which also contains substances that help ungulates get rid of parasites. Caring for the preservation of mountain biodiversity, Rosa Khutor has six feeding stations operating constantly. They are installed at various altitudes in places determined by specialists from the Sochi National Park, where ungulates are most often found," noted Denis Ryltsev, head of the environmental service at the Rosa Khutor resort.
Each feeding station requires 40-50 kilograms of salt to fill. The feeders are constantly replenished. In addition to deer, roe deer and moose living in the vicinity of the resort also enjoy the salt. In winter and early spring, Rosa Khutor employees also leave hay and corn for the animals in the feeding stations. Thanks to this care, the ungulate population in the resort area is constantly growing. Recently, a herd of 40 roe deer was spotted near tourist trails.
