According to the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Romania, six beaches in this country have been awarded the Blue Flag high quality mark. They are located in the Black Sea resorts of Mamaia, Navodari, Eforie and Olympus.

The International Blue Flag Award has been awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to the cleanest and most sustainable beaches since 1987. To be eligible to raise a blue flag on the shore, a place must meet 33 quality criteria.

Key indicators include environmental information and education, environmental management, safety of services provided and, of course, water quality. The Commission of the United Nations Environment Program and the International Union for Conservation of Nature scrutinizes each beach before reaching its verdict.

Romanian environmentalists are very proud that Vega Vintage in Mamaia resort, Marina Regia and Phenicia in Navodari, Citadel and Azur from Eforie, and Phenicia Blue View in Olympus were awarded this season of the beach Oscar.
