In September, there was a significant increase in Russians' interest in the Far East compared to the first month of autumn last year. Tourist flow there increased by 25%, while the number of travelers choosing southern destinations increased by only 17%. This is evidenced by the results of joint research by MegaFon and the Tourism.RF Corporation.
“The abnormally warm September practically gave Russians an extra month of summer. Residents of our country decided not to miss the opportunity to bask in the sun for longer and also explore atypical tourist routes. In September, there was a noticeable increase in interest among domestic tourists in the Far East. Its popularity increased by 25% compared to the same period last year,” the message on the Tourism.RF website says.
The most sought-after Far Eastern region was Primorsky Krai, which received 23% of vacationers. A significant number of Russians visited the Trans-Baikal Territory (15%) and the Amur Region (14%), including for work purposes.
At the same time, the Trans-Baikal Territory became the leader in terms of year-on-year tourist flow growth - travelers came here 33% more often. It is followed by Buryatia, Primorsky and Kamchatka Krais, as well as the Jewish Autonomous Region - in each of these regions, the tourist flow increased by about a third.
“Most often, the Far Eastern direction is chosen by residents of Moscow, Moscow and Novosibirsk regions, as well as the Krasnoyarsk Territory,” the corporation noted.
According to experts, the growing popularity of the Far East is largely due to the development of the macroregion's tourism infrastructure.
