Two dolmen-like tombs have been found in the Krasnaya Polyana area. They are of great interest to science. The study of the finds will give an idea of the culture and customs of the peoples who inhabited the area in the 15-17 centuries BC and will make it possible to create a direction for historical and archaeological tourism in the resort.
"Dolmen-like tombs were discovered during construction in the Krasnaya Polyana area. They belong to the Middle Bronze Age. The dolmens are identical: this is one type of megalithic structures, each of which has a portal - a front side. But, obviously, due to the shortage of building material, the entrance group is not made like an ordinary dolmen slab - with a round window in the middle, but in the form of four rectangular blocks. And what is characteristic of the traditions of dolmen construction, the window of each was closed with a cork," said Andrei Kizilov, head of the sector of historical and cultural heritage of the laboratory of ethnosocial research of the Subtropical Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The stone cork on the portal of one of the tombs fell out during construction work, and the burials of three people were discovered inside. Scientists have already carried out photogrammetric shooting of the tomb chamber and the external appearance of both monuments to obtain 3D models of the objects and record their state before the start of excavations. Only the front, portal side with a window closed with a cork is visible on the surface of the second tomb. Due to the preservation of the dolmen, scientists can get a large amount of unique material for modern science. An intact dolmen is a rarity. Graves could have suffered during earthquakes, landslides or raids of hostile tribes.
