The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources reported on its website about the results of seasonal volunteer projects in specially protected natural areas (SPNA).
“With the participation of volunteers, they traditionally organize activities to clean up areas, develop infrastructure, update facilities for receiving tourists, as well as other projects aimed at developing protected areas,” the department noted.
Thus, in the Kenozersky National Park (Arkhangelsk Region), volunteers helped preserve an ancient barn in the village of Gorbachikha: replace rotten logs and reassemble the historical building. In addition, in mid-September the volunteer shift “Preservation of cultural landscapes of Kenozerie. The Great Divide." Volunteers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk and Kazan took part in it.
“Cultural landscape conservation is supported in the Great Divide of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans by volunteers, protected area staff and local residents. Landscape felling, in which volunteers participated, took place under the guidance and strict control of state inspectors of the protected area. During the work, small trees and shrubs were cut down along the water border near Lake Vilna. Thanks to the help of volunteers, it was possible to open a view of the lake more than half a kilometer long,” the ministry said.
In the Krasnoyarsk Pillars National Park, a team of corporate volunteers from the Good Factory installed architectural lighting in eight guest houses of the Narym scientific and educational complex in mid-September. The protected area is preparing for a meeting of participants in the Siberian Perspective Sustainable Development Summit.
At the initiative of the Katunsky Nature Reserve (Altai Republic), as part of the All-Russian environmental campaign “Water of Russia”, a large-scale environmental campaign to clean up river banks took place in the Ust-Koksinsky district. Teachers and schoolchildren, employees of rural clubs, administrations of rural settlements and other concerned local residents took an active part in it. “The eco-landing participants did a lot of work to clean up the banks of the Katun and its tributaries from household waste. In total, through the efforts of 244 people, more than 45 kilometers of coastline were cleaned and 156 bags of garbage were collected,” the statement says.
According to reserve specialists, the main types of garbage are plastic bottles, plastic bags, aluminum cans, cigarette and chips packaging.
A large-scale environmental campaign “Water of Russia” was also held in the Trans-Baikal National Park in Buryatia. About 100 students from the Baikal College of Tourism and Service took part in it.
And in the Pasvik nature reserve (Murmansk region) on September 9-10, volunteers of the Central Bank of Russia from different cities of the country worked. They participated in the improvement of the botanical garden in the village of Rajakoski.
In the Bolshekhehtsir Nature Reserve (Khabarovsk Territory), this fall, volunteers from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Irkutsk worked on creating a project to equip two ecological trails - “Spring of Dersu” and “Reserve Khekhtsir”. It is planned to install feeding areas for butterflies along the routes, with the possibility for guests and researchers of the reserve to observe them. In addition, during the shift, volunteers studied the flora of the protected area. The work was carried out within the framework of the project “Reserve Business of the Russian Geographical Society”.
