Natalya Polikarpova has been appointed Director of the Pasvik reserve effective from today, as follows from the order signed by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kozlov, according to the press service of the Ministry.

Previously, Natalya Polikarpova held the position of Deputy Head of the Reserve.

Natalia Polikarpova has almost 20 years of experience in the field of environmental protection on the territory of the Kola Peninsula.

«The immediate plans of the protected areas are the development of scientific research and environmental education in the north of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia and in the Barents region in general, work on the state monitoring program and programs of cross-border cooperation. In particular, it is planned to create a permanent exhibition of the visit center, develop ecosystem monitoring, volunteer programs, activities related to the Pasvik river basin,» the department said.

The unique nature reserve "Pasvik" is located in the extreme north-west of Russia and has three borders - Russian, Finnish and Norwegian.

Earlier it was reported that hazardous production has recently been closed in the territory located near the Pasvik Reserve. Now the company "Norilsk Nickel" provides comprehensive support to the region for the development of ecological tourism and the creation of favorable conditions for local residents.

Thus, according to the vice-president of Norilsk Nickel, Andrey Grachev, the Valla Tunturi project will be implemented in the Murmansk region, next to the Pasvik reserve, which will unite various attractions of the Pechenga Municipal District and will allow the development of different types of tourism.
