The administration of six out of ten British museums fears that cultural institutions will not survive the coronavirus pandemic, the Art Fund association said.

The association expressed concern that the new tough epidemiological measures, which came into force in early January in the UK, could lead to some museums "permanently closing their doors."

The British government has urgently allocated 1.57 billion pounds to support cultural institutions, which was not enough.

For its part, the Art Fund association announced on Friday a donation of 750,000 pounds to 23 other cultural institutions, bringing its total support for the sector to 2.25 million since the beginning of the pandemic.

In total, more than 450 British museums have requested assistance for a total of 16.9 million pounds.
