During the "Life in the North!" forum held in Murmansk, regional governor Andrey Chibis presented a new strategic development plan for the region with the same name. The "Life in the North" document outlines tasks in the fields of industry, construction, fishing, healthcare, education, and tourism.
Key areas of the plan include the development of the Murmansk Sea Port, increasing cargo turnover on the Northern Sea Route, as well as a program for developing a mineral resource center, developing a lithium deposit, and creating a production of active cathode materials based on the Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company (Norilsk Nickel).
A separate block was devoted to the topic of improvement, which included proposals from 25,000 residents of the Murmansk region. Thanks to their active participation, not only in the regional center but also in each municipality, there will be its own recreation area near the water. The plan also includes the development of public spaces, walking paths, and tourist trails.
Priorities in the field of ecology include improving air quality, protecting marine and river inhabitants, reducing the negative impact on the environment, and developing specially protected natural areas.
"Solving pressing issues in these areas will help preserve the fragile nature of the Arctic for future generations," said Tatyana Sakharova, a senator from the Murmansk region. She also drew attention to the importance of continuing the renovation program for closed administrative-territorial entities (ZATO), for which more than 42 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal and regional budgets over the next three years.
