In the first seven months of 2022, the number of international tourist arrivals reached 57% of the pre-pandemic level of 2019, according to data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
In particular, the number of international tourists almost tripled from January to July (+172%) compared to the same period in 2021.
This indicator was the result of meeting the high deferred demand for international travel, as well as easing or lifting restrictions on them. As of September 19, 2022, anti-Covid-19 measures have not been introduced in 86 countries.
UNWTO estimates that 474 million tourists made international trips in January-July, compared with 175 million in the same period in 2021.
Europe and the Middle East became the regions in which the greatest increase in tourism was observed, while the number of arrivals reached, respectively, 74% and 76% of the level of 2019.
