The press service of the Mospriroda reported that the department's specialists had created a map of the hedgehogs' habitat. Despite the fact that these animals are listed in the Red Book of Moscow under the second category of rarity, they are quite common in the natural areas of the capital.
Hedgehogs were seen in the natural and historical parks "Bitsevsky Forest", "Kuzminki-Lublino", "Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo", "Moskvoretsky", "Izmailovo", "Ostankino", "Tsaritsyno", "Tushinsky", as well as in the reserves "Zelenogradsky ”, “Teply Stan”, “Troparevsky”, “Lianozovsky”, “Altufievsky”, “Medvedkovsky” and the environmental park “Northern Butovo”.
Spiny animals have already begun to prepare for hibernation: they feed heavily, accumulate subcutaneous fat, and look for homes for the cold season. You can meet them until October, then hedgehogs will go into hibernation until spring.
Mospriroda specialists urge not to come close to hedgehogs, do not pick them up and do not try to pet them. In addition, it is not recommended to feed wild animals, as they are able to get their own food in the warm season.
