Greek Authorities Rush to Assist Tourists

Due to the extremely high temperatures throughout Greece, authorities are urging tourists not to indulge in sunbathing.

According to the Civil Defense of the country, the temperature in Greece will continue to fluctuate around 40 degrees Celsius until the end of July.

Heatstroke incidents have increased, with people dying in the sea and on beaches. Technical devices on yachts and other watercraft are failing, forcing the coast guard to rescue tourists in the open sea.

The record-breaking crowds on urban beaches have forced Greek authorities to open additional ferry lines to transport people to neighboring islands.

For instance, a ferry recently departed from Thessaloniki to the Northern Sporades islands: Skiathos, Alonissos, and Skopelos. Despite the high prices, all places were booked in advance.

Most tourists are from Balkan countries, traveling in groups by buses and families in personal vehicles. A well-organized maritime transport during the peak of the hot season is a lifesaver for those wishing to cool off in the clean waters of the Aegean Sea.
