The official website of the Kamchatka Krai reported that four orcas became trapped in a water pocket and stranded on a sandbar in the estuary of the Bolshaya Vorovskaya River near the village of Ustyovoe. Among them are two calves. Due to the low tide, there was a threat to the lives of these red-listed animals.

Volunteer groups were organized to help the orcas. Currently, emergency services and volunteers are continuously spraying the animals with water using a pump. The use of machinery in the estuary is not possible. As of now, all four orcas are alive. When the tide comes in, specialists will attempt to drag them to deeper waters and guide them back to their natural habitat.

Earlier, videos of the orcas trapped in the estuary near the Sobolevsky District circulated on social media. According to eyewitnesses, one calf was able to escape and make its way to the Okhotsk Sea.
